Questions worth asking any provider

Use these on us, and on whoever else you are talking to. If a provider gets vague on any of them, that is your answer.

  1. Who exactly would be supporting me, and can I meet them before we start?
  2. What happens when my regular worker is sick or on leave?
  3. How much notice do you need to change or cancel a shift, and what does that cost me?
  4. What did your last NDIS audit find?
  5. How do you handle a complaint, and who hears it?
  6. How many of your workers live near me?
  7. Are there services you do not provide, that I would need someone else for?

What we do

What we actually do, in plain terms. If what you need is not here, we will say so and point you somewhere better.

Daily living

  • Personal care and hygiene support
  • Household tasks, meals and domestic help
  • Mobility support around the home
  • Medication reminders and routine support

Community and transport

  • Getting to appointments, work or study
  • Shopping, errands and social outings
  • Support to take part in local activities

Building capacity

  • Developing life skills and household independence
  • Support through life stage transitions
  • Building confidence to do more independently

What we do not do

  • Supported independent living or accommodation-based supports
  • Short term respite or accommodation
  • Plan management. We can point you to one, but we do not manage plan funds
  • Anything requiring a clinician in the home

We would rather tell you now than three weeks in.

One of the most diverse places in the country

Greater Dandenong has one of the highest proportions of residents born overseas of any council area in Australia, and a large share of households speak a language other than English at home. That matters practically rather than sentimentally: support work involves your home, your body and your routines, and doing that through a language barrier is harder than people who have never had to do it imagine. Ask any provider which languages their workers actually speak, and whether one can be rostered to you rather than merely employed somewhere in the organisation.

You will not meet a stranger every week

You meet your workers before they start. If your regular worker is away, the person who covers is someone you have already met, not whoever was free that day.

On registration, honestly

Registration means we are audited against the NDIS Practice Standards, and that NDIA-managed plans can use us. Self-managed and plan-managed participants can use unregistered providers too, so registration is a floor, not a recommendation. Ask every provider you are considering what their last audit found.

Where we are

Our office is in Narre Warren, a short run down the highway from Dandenong.

How it works

  1. 1

    Tell us what you need

A short form, or a phone call if you would rather. Nothing personal in the first step.

  2. 2

    We call you back

A real conversation about what your week looks like and whether we can genuinely cover it.

  3. 3

    Meet the worker first

No obligation. If it is not the right fit, we find someone else or tell you we are not the provider for this.

What happens to what you tell us

We use it to work out whether we can help, and nothing else. We do not sell it, and we do not pass it to anyone outside SESI without asking you first.

Straight answers

Can I get a support worker who speaks my language?

Ask us directly and we will tell you which languages we can currently roster in your area rather than which ones appear somewhere on our staff list. If we cannot match you, we will say so, and interpreting can be arranged for planning conversations either way.

Do you cover Noble Park and Dandenong North?

Yes, both are within the area we staff, along with Dandenong South. Give us the street when you call and we will confirm rather than assume.

Do you have capacity right now?

Ask us and we will tell you straight. Capacity changes week to week, and a provider who says yes to everything is telling you nothing. If we cannot cover what you need, we will say so on the first call rather than three weeks in.

Do I have to be with an NDIS registered provider?

Only if your plan is NDIA-managed. Self-managed and plan-managed participants can use unregistered providers as well. Registration means we are audited against the NDIS Practice Standards, which is a floor rather than a guarantee.

Can I change my mind after I start?

Yes. You can change providers at any time and you do not need NDIA approval to do it. The only obligation is whatever notice period is in the service agreement you signed, so read that before you sign anything.

What does it cost me?

Supports are charged to your NDIS plan at or below the NDIS price limits, so there is nothing to pay out of pocket for the support itself. Costs that everyone pays, such as your own entry ticket to an activity, are not NDIS funded.

Can I ask for a worker of a particular gender?

Yes, and it is a normal request, not an awkward one. Tell us before your first shift so it is built into rostering from the start rather than raised after a shift you were not comfortable with.

Book a callback

Two minutes. The first step asks nothing personal, and we will tell you honestly whether we are a fit.
